EMBROIDERY

I love to take inspiration from the landscape and local visits to the ocean. I approach embroidery from a lens of observational drawing. It is a mindful practice in noticing details that I would not have otherwise picked up on had I not spent the slow time stitching.

The small and hyper-detailed nature of embroidery allows me to observe details in the landscape and capture moments in time by making intentional choices in mark-making, like capturing the way water shimmers in the sun by using metallic threads, choosing 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional embroidery stitches to capture grassy textures swaying in the distance, or representing the bumpy nature of rocks on the beach with different-sized beads.
